Paris During The Pandemic.

Apr 9, 2020 | France, Paris, Photography

I imagine, like me, many of you have watched films or series about a post apocalyptic world. Whether due to a virus pandemic, a world war or climate catastrophy, it’s the emptiness and quiet that is so striking and let’s face it, frightening.

The current health cirisis was bound to happen sooner or later and fiction creators, as well as bona fide scientists, have been expecting it for some time now.

A good friend of mine lives in the historical centre of Paris and she has been sending me photos of her daily walk, so very different from my very pastoral one.

I asked Elisabeth whether walking in these empty streets was peaceful or frightening.

She says:

I find it peaceful, while knowing, of course, that it’s not normal. I’m not worried when I go out for a walk, people keep their distance and there aren’t very many.

The problem is that we don’t know what the future holds.

As I’m an optimist, I’m sure we will get through this ok. After all, in the Middle Ages, the plague was much worse.

Here is a series of Elisabeth’s photos:

The Esplanade of the Louvre Museum.

The Arch of the Carrousel in the Tuileries Gardens.

The Tuileries Gardens looking towards the Place de la Concorde.

The Ile de la Cité, the heart of ancient Paris.

The Hôtel de Ville (City Hall).

A view to the Opéra.

The Place des Victoires.

The Fountain at St Michel.

The Pont des Arts.

Thank you to my friend Elisabeth for sharing these images with me and allowing me to share them with my readers.

Images like these will document an historical event and time in our lives, worldwide.

Let’s hope that lessons will be learnt and that the future will be more respectful of the home we share with all living creatures.

Thank you for visiting.

Staye Safe, Stay Sane,

Thank you to you and your friend for the photos of Paris in lock down. So weird but so peaceful, a pity there is not a way to have a less busy Paris and other big cities around the world, after the crisis!!
